Does your child trip frequently, complain of “growing pains” at night, or walk with their toes turned in? At Podiatry Quest, we believe early intervention is the key to a lifetime of healthy movement. Our approach is rooted in Comprehensive Musculoskeletal (MSK) Assessments, where we look beyond the feet to analyze the entire lower limb, ensuring your child develops a strong, aligned foundation.
Paediatric Children’s Podiatry: Expert Care for Growing Feet
A child’s foot is not just a smaller version of an adult’s. We specialise in the musculoskeletal development of your child, from first steps to competitive sports.
When Should You Consult a Paediatric Podiatrist?
Milestone Guide: Is Their Development on Track?
Many parents are told their child will “outgrow” certain walking patterns. While true for some, others require clinical support. Here is a guide to help you decide:
- The Toddler Phase (Ages 1-4): Watch for persistent “pigeon toes” (In-toeing), tip-toe walking, or if they seem unusually “clumsy” compared to their peers.
- The Primary Years (Ages 5-10): Look for uneven wear on school shoes, complaints of aching shins, or flat feet that look significantly collapsed when standing.
- The Active Pre-Teen (Ages 11+): Watch for sharp heel pain during sports (Sever’s Disease), knee instability, or stubborn skin issues like viral warts (verrucae).
Our Comprehensive Musculoskeletal (MSK) Audit
We don’t just “look” at feet; we diagnose the kinetic chain. Our paediatric assessments are deep-dives into how your child’s body moves.
- Joint Range of Motion (ROM) Testing: We assess the flexibility and alignment of the hips, knees, and ankles to ensure there are no structural blockages or hypermobility issues affecting their gait.
- Muscle Power & Coordination: We test the strength of the specific muscle groups responsible for arch support and stability, identifying “lazy” muscles that may be causing fatigue.
- Neurological & Vascular Screening: A vital part of paediatric care is ensuring the nerves and blood flow to the growing limbs are functioning perfectly.
- Gait & Postural Analysis: Using expert clinical observation, we map your child’s walking pattern to identify “compensations” – where one part of the body is overworking to make up for a weakness elsewhere.
Specialist Solutions for Common Childhood Foot Issues
- In-toeing & Out-toeing: First, we identify if this is a cause for concern, or something that will resolve on its own with time. If there is a need to intervene, we identify if the rotation originates at the hip, knee, or foot and provide “gait plates” or specific strengthening exercises to encourage a straighter, more stable stride.
- Sever’s Disease (Heel Pain): If your active child is limping after football or netball, it is likely calcaneal apophysitis or Sever’s heel growth plate issue. We provide immediate relief through heel lifts, load management, rehabilitative exercises, orthotics and footwear changes – usually without the need to stop sports entirely.
- Paediatric Flat Feet: We distinguish between a “flexible” arch (common) and a “functional collapse” that strains the shins and knees, providing 3D-printed orthotics only when clinically necessary. Similarly, we identify if this is a cause for concern, or part of your child’s natural development.
- Painless Wart (Verruca) Treatment: With nitric acid and strategies to boost immune response, say goodbye to stubborn warts as we clear time safely and with minimal pain.
Are Their School Shoes Doing More Harm Than Good?
Children spend over 30 hours a week in their school shoes. At Podiatry Quest, we offer a Clinical Shoe Audit. Bring your child’s current school shoes and sports cleats to your appointment. We will check the wear patterns to decode their gait and provide a specific list of recommended brands and models available in Singapore that support their unique foot type.

Frequently Asked Questions: Paediatric Children’s Podiatry
Will my child outgrow flat feet?
Most toddlers have a fat pad that makes their feet look flat. However, if the arch does not develop by age 6, or if your child experiences pain or fatigue, a professional assessment is needed to determine if orthotic support is required..
Why does my child trip so much when walking?
Frequent tripping is often caused by ‘In-toeing’ (pigeon toes) or poor foot coordination. Our paediatric podiatrists use 3D gait analysis to find the root cause and provide corrective footwear or exercises to improve stability.
Are 'growing pains' in the feet normal?
While common, ‘growing pains’ that wake a child up at night or stop them from playing sports are often signs of treatable conditions like Sever’s Disease. We provide simple, non-invasive solutions to manage this pain quickly.
