Ingrown Toenail Management

Management of painful ingrown nails

Ingrown toenails are painful as part of the nail is growing into the soft skin, causing irritation of the nerves and blood vessels. At times, it can cause a wound and lead to an infection. This can be avoided with regular care of the offending nail.

At Podiatry Quest,  we can help by removing the offending nail portion with minimal pain. We also provide Onyfix nail correction system that provides painless treatment to involuted and ingrown toenails. In the more persistent and significant cases, a simple procedure is performed to remove the nail portion permanently.

How We Can Help

Causes of ingrown toenails:

  • Poor nail care technique (cutting into the corners of nails)
  • Excessive pressure from tight poor-fitting shoes e.g high heels
  • Trauma to the nail
  • Abnormal nail shapes (curved and pincher-like)

An ingrown toenail is caused by a piece of nail protruding into the soft tissue around it. This can cause a wound, which can lead to an infection in the toe. If the ingrown toenail is minor, a simple conservative nail trimming may suffice.

At Podiatry Quest, we also provide Onyfix nail correction system. It is a revolutionary product that enables completely painless treatment of involuted and ingrown toenails. Onyfix is designed to correct the curvature of the toenail and alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with ingrown nails.

Onyfix nail correction bracing system is individualised to your nail, which is brought back to its natural shape as it grows. The application of the brace is pain-free during and throughout the entire treatment.

Benefits of Onyfix:

  • Pain-free treatment
  • Rapid pain alleviation
  • Corrects the nail through physiological nail growth
  • Highly effective
  • No restrictions on patient activities (incl. swimming/sauna)
  • Suitable for diabetics, high-risk patients, children and infants

In cases where the ingrown toenail is more serious or persistent, a minor ingrown toenail surgery is needed. This is an extremely effective management option and is highly likely to provide a permanent solution to ingrown toenails.
