How We Can Help

Stop the Cycle: From Chronic Anxiety to Permanent Relief

Permanent Cure for Infected Ingrown Toenail

If you’ve been trapped in a loop of recurring infections, “bathroom surgery,” and the constant fear of someone stepping on your toe, you aren’t just looking for a trim – you’re looking for a permanent exit. While our non-invasive Onyfix nail bracing solution is highly effective, there are cases which are infected and persistent. We understand that the word “surgery” can be daunting, but at Podiatry Quest, our Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) procedure is designed to be the kindest thing you can do for your feet.

We’ve refined the “Fear-to-Relief” journey into a seamless, 60-minute clinical experience:

1. The “Gentle Numb” & Clinical Screening

The most common fear is the needle. We use a specialised, gentle technique to administer local anaesthesia, ensuring your toe is completely numb before we begin. Once the area is prepared, you will feel zero pain during the procedure.

  • Safety First: Your journey begins with a thorough medical screening. Your podiatrist will review your medical history to ensure the procedure is safe for you, identifying any factors – such as circulation, healing capacity, or allergies – that might lead to complications like infection or delayed healing. We believe an informed patient is a safe patient.

2. Precision Correction & Phenolisation

Unlike outdated methods that involve removing the entire nail, we only remove a tiny 2-3mm sliver of the offending edge. This preserves the natural look of your toe while removing the source of the agony.

  • The Permanent Solution: To ensure the “spike” never returns, we apply pharmaceutical-grade Phenol to the nail’s growth plate (matrix). While Phenol is the gold standard for a 95%+ success rate, it may not be suitable for every individual. Your podiatrist will advise on the best alternative if Phenol is not recommended for your specific case.

3. Recovery & Crucial Post-Op Care

There is no “hospital downtime.” Most of our Singapore patients return to light work or school the very next day.

  • Your Role in Healing: Successful, permanent healing relies on diligent post-procedure wound care. We don’t just send you home; we provide you with a comprehensive post-op kit and clear instructions. Following these steps is crucial to preventing infection and ensuring the nail bed heals perfectly.

Recurring Toenail Infection Treatment

What to Expect:

Comprehensive Pre-Op Assessment: Checking circulation and suitability.

The Procedure: Performed by a Senior Podiatrist. Sterile, Clinic-Based Procedure.

The Post-Op Kit: All dressings, antiseptic, and bandages included – no need to visit a pharmacy.

The Safety Net: A scheduled follow-up appointment to ensure the site is healing perfectly.

Recovery Timeline:

  • Day 0 (Day of Procedure): Walk out of the clinic comfortably. Keep the foot elevated for the evening.
  • Day 1-2: Return to most school or office activities. Minor “throbbing” is normal and managed with basic over-the-counter pain relief.

Frequently Asked Questions: Permanent Ingrown Toenail Surgery Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA)

How long does it take to recover from ingrown toenail surgery?

Most patients return to school or light work the very next day. While the toe takes about 2-4 weeks to heal completely, you can usually resume normal walking immediately. We provide a full post-operative kit and clear instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

Is the Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA) procedure painful?

The procedure itself is entirely painless. We use a local anaesthetic to fully numb the toe before we begin. You may feel a small pinch during the numbing process, but after that, you will feel no pain at all during the 45-minute procedure.

Will my toenail look weird after surgery?

No. We only remove a tiny 2-3mm sliver of the nail edge. Once healed, the nail looks slightly narrower but otherwise completely natural. Most people cannot even tell that a procedure was performed.

Can I drive home after the surgery?

Because only your toe is numbed (not your whole foot), most patients are able to drive. However, we recommend wearing an open-toed sandal or a very loose shoe to the appointment to accommodate the temporary protective dressing.
