Fungal nails are something we see almost every day, and we know how frustrating they can be. Patients often tell us they’ve tried multiple creams, home remedies, or even oral medication, only to find the infection keeps coming back. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone – and you’re definitely not out of options.

One treatment we’ve had a lot of success with at Podiatry Quest is PACT® Therapy (Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy). It’s a gentle, light-based treatment that helps clear fungal nail infections without pain, medication, or downtime. Many of our patients appreciate it because it’s straightforward, comfortable, and safe for almost everyone.

What Is PACT® Therapy?

PACT Therapy uses a special gel that reacts to blue LED light. When the light activates the gel, it creates a reaction that specifically targets fungal cells. It doesn’t damage the surrounding skin or healthy nail – just the infected areas. A lot of people ask what the treatment feels like. The honest answer: pretty much nothing. There’s no heat and no discomfort. You sit back, the light does its work, and the session is over in a few minutes.

Why We Recommend PACT Therapy for Fungal Nails

Over the years, we’ve found PACT Therapy to be a good option for:

  • Patients who can’t take oral antifungal medication
  • Those who prefer a drug-free treatment
  • Stubborn infections that haven’t responded well to creams
  • Anyone looking for a safe and practical alternative.
It’s also suitable for older adults, diabetics (with proper assessment), and patients with sensitive skin.

What Your Session Will Look Like

We keep things simple. At your first visit, we look at the nail closely to understand the severity and confirm whether the infection is fungal. After that:
  1. We gently trim and thin the affected nail to help the gel penetrate better.
  2. The PACT gel is applied to the nail.
  3. The nail is exposed to the LED light for a few minutes.
  4. You’re done – no downtime and no restrictions!
Depending on the infection, you may need a series of sessions over several weeks – milder infections may require just 4 sessions while more severe ones will require more than that.

Results & What to Expect

Fungal nails take time to grow out, so improvement is gradual. What PACT Therapy does is significantly reduce the fungal load, giving your nail the chance to grow out healthier and clearer over the coming months. We’ll also go through simple steps to prevent reinfection—things like shoe hygiene, sock materials, and foot care habits. These small changes make a big difference in long-term results.

Why Many Patients Prefer This Approach

People often share that they feel relieved finally having a treatment plan that makes sense and doesn’t involve medication or complicated routines. And because the sessions are quick and painless, it’s easy to fit them into a busy schedule.
